About MeI'm Alecia. I am a Dakota farmer's wife who lives on a farm with 400 cows, and my husband! I am a child of the King, a farmer's daughter, a designer, a full time health & fitness coach, and a dreamer. I am The Fit Farmer's Wife.
I chose to be healthy for me. For my husband. For my future. Being healthy isn't a diet or a fad. Being healthy isn't boring nor does it limit you to certain foods. It is a complete lifestyle change for the better. Being healthy is loving your body and being happier with yourself. It is being confident in your own skin. It is a daily commitment to push yourself and achieve your goals. |
My Story |
In the Fall of 2014, I found myself sitting beside my husband in the waiting room waiting to see my rheumatologist. This was the day, at age 23, my life changed forever. After a day of lots of testing and blood work, I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. RA runs in my family. My grandfather has suffered all of his life with the disease. I was scared out of my mind. I didn't want to be crippled and have limited movement in my joints. Not to mention, women are more likely to have more crippling than men. Later in the year, I found myself struggling with a horrible rash and itching all over my body. I was itching so badly, that I would even wake my husband up during the night. Back to the doctor I went, where I later found out, I also had another auto-immune disease called, Psoriasis.
For those of you who don't know, auto-immune diseases have no cure. You don't out-grow it and you could get it no matter what your age. More often than not, you can have multiple auto-immune disorders. With auto-immune diseases, you body is basically attacking itself. An Auto Immune Disease starts when your immune system, which normally fights off infection, decides that your healthy cells are foreign. This causes your immune system to be suppressed and you get sick often. (I can recall getting sick almost every month of the winter before I was actually diagnosed.) After hearing such devastating news at only 23 and being newly married, I knew something had to change. I didn't want to go on harsh drugs, that could have horrible side-effects including, loss of eye sight and stomach problems. I knew harsh medications were not the route I wanted to take, until I absolutely needed them. After hearing and seeing a friends results from doing the program, PiYo, I knew I could do it too! After eight weeks and almost eleven inches lost, and my psoriasis was gone and I was getting sick a lot less (props to Shakeology!). I knew this was something I had to keep doing and tell others about! That is why I am now coaching and hosting monthly challenge groups on exercise and clean eating to help others set and crush their goals by becoming healthier! This is my time. It's my time to give back. I want to take you on a journey, a journey to better health, and a better lifestyle. I want you to be confident in your skin and wear those skinny jeans! I am here for you as we travel this journey together! |
